Robert F. Haverly, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Specializing in LASIK/PRK, Cataract, and Complex Eye Surgeries
Dr. Robert F. Haverly is a highly experienced ophthalmologist specializing in refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK), cataract surgery, and complex treatments for glaucoma, corneal, and retinal conditions. He was the first surgeon in Erie to perform LASIK, “all-laser” LASIK, DSEK (corneal transplant), and glaucoma seton valve placements. Dr. Haverly is also the only surgeon in the area offering corneal cross-linking for keratoconus.
Dr. Haverly employs the latest technologies, including iDesign® with Wavefront and iFS (blade-free) Intralase technology for LASIK, and advanced Wavefront Technology for PRK. For cataract surgery, he uses LenSx® laser technology for Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery, as well as iStent® surgery and goniotomies to treat both cataracts and glaucoma.
He is also a principal investigator for clinical trials evaluating new corneal procedures, glaucoma treatments, dry eye solutions, advancements in intraocular lenses (IOLs), and other FDA-evaluated technologies.
Dr. Haverly earned his degree in neurosciences from Cornell University and graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he was elected chief resident. He also completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and has authored multiple scientific articles and book chapters.
Dr. Haverly joined Laser Eye Surgery of Erie in 1998 and has been a vital part of the practice ever since. He served as chief of ophthalmology at Saint Vincent Surgery Center from 2005 to 2011. Recognized as one of the top 100 refractive surgeons in the U.S. since 1999, his practice has ranked among the top 50 LASIK/PRK centers nationwide. He has also served as an editor for EyeNet journal and is currently a research editor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Haverly is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Pennsylvania Ophthalmology Society, the American Medical Association, and the Erie County Medical Society, where he previously served as president.
Driven by his passion for restoring vision and advancing eye care worldwide, Dr. Haverly has volunteered on medical missions, including his recent trip to Guatemala, where he performed cataract and pterygium surgeries, bringing sight to those in need, and helped train future ophthalmologists.
Dr. Hilinski
CARRIE HILINSKI, O.D.
Dr. Carrie Hilinski specializes in primary care optometry with special interests in contact lenses, ocular diseases, and refractive surgery.
An Erie native, Dr. Hilinski attended Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College for 3 years before attending the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Philadelphia, PA, where she graduated in May 2022. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. Her externships were focused on contact lenses, primary care optometry, and medical optometry in a primary care and Veterans Affairs (VA) setting. Dr. Hilinski is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Pennsylvania Optometric Association. She moved back to Erie, Pennsylvania after school to be closer to her family and the snow. Outside of work, Dr. Hilinski enjoys visiting amusement parks, going ziplining, and crafting.
